What is Celebrate Recovery?

Celebrate Recovery is a Christ-centered recovery program based on the Beatitudes. The purpose of CR is to fellowship and celebrate God’s healing power in our lives through the 12 steps and 8 recovery principles. By applying these principles we experience freedom from our hurts, habits, and hang-ups creating peace, serenity, joy and a stronger personal relationship with God and others. Celebrate Recovery is a safe place to share your struggles, a place where we can take off our masks. A place where you hear the words: “Nobody walks alone.” Celebrate Recovery changes lives!

Is Celebrate Recovery for me?

You may be thinking that recovery is just for those who struggle with drugs and alcohol. We’ve found that people attending CR struggle with all types of issues not just chemical dependencies.
•    Do you struggle with poor self image?
•    Do you struggle with depression, isolation, a lack of trust?
•    Have you experienced a painful divorce?
•    Do you struggle with lust? Pornography? Sexual Addiction?
•    Do you seek comfort through food, alcohol or other substances?
•    Are you a survivor of physical, emotional or sexual abuse?
•    Is a current friend or relative struggling with an addiction?
•    Do you yearn for others approval? Are you a people pleaser?

Celebrate Recovery is not for “those other people.” It’s for you and me!
“We all have sinned, we’ve all fallen short, we’ve all been hurt, and we’ve all hurt others. Everybody needs recovery!”

There Is HOPE

By working through the eight recovery principles found in the Beatitudes with Jesus Christ as your higher power, you can and will find freedom from these conditions! You will begin to experience the true peace and serenity you have been seeking; you will no longer have to rely on your dysfunctional, compulsive, and addictive behaviors as a temporary “fix” for your pain.

“My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” 2 Cor. 12:9 NLT

8 Recovery Principles

Based on the Beatitudes
By Pastor Rick Warren, Saddleback Valley Community Church

1. R - REALIZE I’m not God. I admit that I am powerless to control my tendency to do the wrong thing and my life is unmanageable.
"Happy are those who know they are spiritually poor." (Matthew 5:3)

2. E - EARNESTLY believe that God exists, that I matter to Him, and that He has the power to help me recover.
"Happy are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted." (Matthew 5:4)

3. C - CONSCIOUSLY choose to commit all my life and will to Christ’s care and control.
"Happy are the meek." (Matthew 5:5)

4. O - OPENLY examine and confess my faults to myself, to God, and to someone I trust.
"Happy are the pure in heart." (Matthew 5:8)

5. V - VOLUNTARILY submit to every change God wants to make in my life and humbly ask Him to remove my character defects.
"Happy are those whose greatest desire is to do what God requires." (Matthew 5:6)

6. E - EVALUATE all my relationships. Offer forgiveness to those who have hurt me and make amends for harm I’ve done to others, except when to do so would harm them or others.
"Happy are the merciful. Happy are the peacemakers." (Matthew 5:7 & Matthew 5:9)

7. R - RESERVE a daily time with God for self-examination, Bible reading, and prayer in order to know God and His will for my life and to gain the power to follow His will.

8. Y - YIELD myself to be used by God to bring this Good News to others, both by my example and by my words.
"Happy are those who are persecuted because they do what God requires." (Matthew 5:10)
