Day 10: Joy - The pineapple is an intriguing fruit! At a first glance of it's rough exterior, you would never imagine the extreme sweetness that it holds inside. In the same way, joy is the result of inner satisfaction that comes only from God. Contrary to popular opinion, joy is not based on external circumstances. People often think that if circumstances change for the better, then they will experience more joy. But that is not how it works.

Day 9: Peace - Many people view peace as a bi-product of war. In many locales around the globe, peace is understood as a state that is only reached after much effort and fighting. Although this is, perhaps, a marginal view of peace, perhaps there is some truth in it. Perhaps peace is, in fact, a result of effort. In other words, peace is something that must be cultivated before it is experienced.

Day 7: Patience - Take some time today to prepare the following recipe. As you do, consider the trouble it takes to gather all the ingredients and the time it takes for preparation. Once you are finished, compare the trouble you went through to the value of the final product. Was it worth it to you? As you share it with others, was it worth it to them? What insight does this give you concerning the value of patience?

Day 6: Goodness - Goodness means always having to do with what is good. In other words, it's not just good in ONE aspect, but rather, it's good in terms of EVERY aspect. Things that are good are beneficial to us in every way. This is true for the coconut as well. In fact, the coconut is so beneficial in regards to health and medicine that in the Pacific Islands, the coconut palm is referred to as "the tree of life."

Day 5: Kindness - Some of our fondest memories come from the glorious days of summers past. Playing ball outside, or lending a helping hand in the yard - all in defiance to the fervent heat of the sun that steadily beads down with excruciating force. Then, there comes a point of unbearable agony, when work and play seem less important than ever before, and the world around you takes a backseat to your innate longing for relief.

Day 4: Love - Grapes certainly meet a physical need, but what about our spiritual and emotional needs? When you are sad, feeling alone and rejected, or thirsty for attention and acceptance, what do you crave? LOVE, of course!
