Day 14
THE WORD
“We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you, since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love that you have for all the saints, because of the hope laid up for you in heaven. Of this you have heard before in the word of the truth, the gospel, which has come to you, as indeed in the whole world it is bearing fruit and growing—as it also does among you, since the day you heard it and understood the grace of God in truth." Colossians 1:3-6 (ESV)
THE APPLICATION
Today, we will reflect on our study up to this point on the fruit of the spirit. At this point, we have a ‘fruit bowl’ of character! We have journeyed through love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. As with most gardens or farms, planting and harvesting is never over, there’s just transitioning to different seasons for cycle to repeat with a different set of crops.
Perhaps certain fruit stood out to you initially as places in your character that needed a little more ‘fertilizer’! However, as you pray and ‘remain’ in Christ, those areas begin to flourish! Inevitably, other ‘fruits’ may begin to look like they need a little more attention. Please pray for each other to continue abiding and producing fruit.
As Paul writes to the church in Colossus, he encourages them with the same message. He says that the church has received the word of truth and that it is bearing fruit throughout the world and amongst them as a local body. You have truly developed through your challenges and triumphs this Daniel Fast.
As we complete the second half of the fast, continue to pray for one another. Build on what God has already done as you discover what He desires to do for you in the future!
THE NEXT STEP
1. Sit down and reflect on your top 3 ‘eye-opening’ moments during your devotional time.
2. Pray for two friends or co-workers that may benefit from growing in the same areas that were eye openers for you (or perhaps another area of character).
3. Celebrate what God has already done for you and what He wants to do for the people for whom you have prayed.
